New on AirCorps Library for July 8
This is a big week for AirCorps Library, and to celebrate, we are bringing you our first-ever set of microfilm drawings for the Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star.
Regular Library users have already noticed the redesigned buttons and new layout for AirCorps Library. In addition to a more standardized and consistent visual interface across all units, we have also elected to organize the aircraft units by manufacturer. A major reason for this is that as we have grown, we have acquired a number of manufacturer-specific documents relevant to multiple aircraft made by the same company.
A perfect example of this is the new Lockheed Process Specifications unit. These documents are part of the T-33 film we digitized, but are relevant to the manufacture of multiple Lockheed aircraft from that era. We felt this information worked best grouped by manufacturer, along with the airframes.
Back to the new drawings. As we told you a few weeks ago, the T-33 was the only jet trainer for the U.S. Air Force for nearly 10 years. That means many pilots spent time behind the stick of this aircraft. The microfilm set we have digitized and uploaded included 18 rolls of film and 9,594 drawings and Process Specification documents.
But wait, there's more! Jet engines are cool and all, but we didn't want to forget our radial friends who have been a part of AirCorps Library from the beginning. To show our continued loyalty to these warbird powerplants, we have added 22 new manuals for Pratt & Whitney engines. Many of the Pratt & Whitney documents cover multiple models from the R-985 up to the R-2800.
To round things out, we also threw in a couple of new Clothing & Equipment manuals and a few manuals for Inflation & Purging components.
It all adds up to more than 90 new manuals and thousands of new engineering drawings added to AirCorps Library this week.
