New Manuals on AirCorps Library for May 6th
We are back this week with 38 new component manuals for the Oxygen Equipment and Accessories units.
The manuals uploaded to the Oxygen Equipment unit include some nice later documents from the 1960's and 1970s, including a 1976 manual with general maintenance instructions.
In the Accessories unit, you will find new manuals on valves, filters, engine mounts, and some components related to aircraft seating.
These manuals were donated to AirCorps Library by Aero Trader Warbird Restoration and Maintenance in Chino, California. We have links below to all of this week's new documents.
Renaming Standards
We also want to spend some time this week discussing adding descriptions to Specifications on AirCorps Library. We recently finished up our C-47 unit and are now asking AirCorps Library subscribers to help rename drawings in our Standards unit, but we have gotten some questions because the specifications and standards look a bit different than the parts drawings.
The image to the right shows the standard title block on a parts drawing. When we at AirCorps Library upload a drawing or specification, we name it using the part number - the number in the red box.
We allow users to rename the drawing using the drawing description - the item in the yellow box. Adding a drawing to the description makes the part more searchable on AirCorps Library.
On the specification, the title block generally stretches across the bottom of the page, but it can look different based on the time period in which it was published or the agency or company that published it.
Below, are two examples of National Aircraft/Aerospace Standard sheets, one from 1973 and one from 1941:
In all three images above, when we look for a user-submitted drawing description to be entered, we are looking for the information in the yellow boxes. You do not need to add the letters or numbers in the red box. That is how the specification or standard is named on AirCorps Library.
- When entering the drawing description we always ask that it follow the same standard format, regardless of whether it is a standard or an engineering drawing.
- Always enter any punctuation in the title (periods, commas, hashtags, ampersands, etc.)
- Always put a space before and after a hyphen, even if there doesn't appear to be a space.
- Correct obvious misspellings, but leave abbreviations.
If you make a typo, miss something, or rename a bunch of specifications using the part number don't be too concerned. We check each description entered on the website. Finally, if you come across a drawing where you can't read the title or description, or can't figure out how it should be entered, just skip it. There is no harm in that.
