Pratt & Whitney, more Service Bulletins, and some really interesting "miscellaneous" manuals!

Another week, and more manuals added to the AirCorps Library site. It really is an almost never-ending process! In 1953 the Air Force estimated that they had 25,000 documents within their technical library - pretty impressive, and also great job security if you're hoping to collect and scan them all!

Pratt & Whitney Engines

Pratt & Whitney engines were used on a wide variety of aircraft during WWII, and the company continues to be prolific within the engine community today. Each engine model had a nickname that contained the "wasp" description: Wasp Jr. (R-985), Wasp (R-1340), Twin Wasp Jr. (R-1830), Twin Wasp (R-2000), Double Wasp (R-2800), and Wasp Major (R-4360). We have manuals for all of these engines on AirCorps Library, the ones listed below are just the newly added ones from this week!

Propeller Manuals

A handful of propeller manuals were added this week. The Curtiss Electric Propeller Repairman document is a great general introduction to the disassembly, inspection, reassembly, and testing of Curtis props.

Miscellaneous Manuals

The selection of newly added manuals in this list includes everything from a Grumman Albatross Parts Catalog, several great weather training manuals, and my person favorite, the Training Manual for USAF Advanced Survival Training. Even though it's dated 1958 and is a bit later than the document we normally put on the site, it is a fascinating read. It covers everything from living off the land to caring for your survival equipment, and building shelters. Also interesting is the "Survival Museum" explained in the first chapter. The museum had 11 individual displays, each depicting a survival aspect or technique (river travel, backpacking, mountaineering, fishing, and arctic shelters to name a few). Each exhibit is described in detail, and there are photos of each one as well - check it out!
