Aircraft Insignia & Markings - it doesn't get more popular than that!

One of the topics that constantly comes up for me, is questions related to aircraft markings and insignia. It's not hard to understand why either - the insignia on an aircraft makes it immediately identifiable, which is pretty important! So I'm always excited to add new materials related to this topic to the AirCorps Library site. Scroll down to see what we've added this week!

Allison V-1710 Advanced Revisions Notices:

We are very excited to be adding several new units over the next couple of weeks with a wealth of information on the Allison V-1710 engine. This week's new unit related to the V-1710 is called "Advanced Revision Notices." Just as the name would indicate, each "notice" is a revision to an original Tech Order with tons of helpful information on very specific topics. All of the V-1710 Advanced Revision Notices listed below came to AirCorps Library from the one and only Dan Whitney, who is widely considered to the one of the top gurus on Allison engines, and specifically the V-1710!

Aircraft Insignia & Markings Manuals:

All the marking and insignia manuals in this section are from the Ken Jungeberg Collection, which makes them extra special (to me at least!). While the listed document below are of a later vintage than we normally put on the AirCorps Library site, they relate to one of our most popular topics so it didn't really make sense not to share them with you. As I mentioned earlier, markings and insignia is something that I get constant questions about, so I absolutely love it when I have new resources to share on this topic. The documents below detail camouflage and markings info for aircraft ranging from the C-130 Hercules and B-52 Stratofortress, to the C-54 Skymaster and F-4 Phantom. There is a little of something for everyone in this info - no matter what aircraft you love!
If you are craving more info about WWII era markings and insignia you should definitely check out the AirCorps Art blogAirCorps Art is another branch of the AirCorps Aviation family that AirCorps Library is also a part of. Nic Johnson is in charge of our art department which supplies our aircraft restorations with historically accurate placards and markings, and also makes them available to the general public. He's written some great blog posts such as "How to Paint a WWII Aircraft Insignia", USAAF Color Codes: Researching the Origins of WWII Camouflage Colors and Aircraft Finishes", and "How to Draw the USAF Insignia Star and Bars" just to name a few.
And now, for this weeks insignia and marking manual additions:

Pratt & Whitney R-2000 Twin Wasp Engine Manuals:

North American Aviation Training and Drafting Information:

Don't be fooled by the fact that these three manuals are at the bottom of this weeks additions - they are all really neat! Like the insignia manuals above, these three items are also part of the Ken Jungeberg Collection, and give a fascinating peek into the everyday workings of North American Aviation after WWII. The drafting manual is by far my favorite due to my interest in the draftsmen of North American Aviation during WWII - if you have an interest in this as well, I suggest you check out my blog post from several weeks ago titled "The Draftsmen of NAA Inglewood: Dutch Kindlebergers Dream Team". The images after the links are taken from my second favorite of these three, the NAA Shop manual, that details how to be an effective manager and more.
