A heartwarming story of how AirCorps Library is being used to bring a Corsair out of storage and back to the skies!
AirCorps Library In Action
The Tri-State Warbird museum (TSWM) is located east of Cincinnati in Batavia, Ohio, and their collection of warbirds includes a P-51D, B-25N, T-6D, P-40M, TBM-3, FW-190, C-45, Stearman, J3, and L-4H. Currently, the restoration shop is working to restore an FG-1D Corsair, and they are using AirCorps Library every step of the way.
Noah Stegman Rechtin, the collections manager at TSWM recently told me that they have a mobile station set up in the restoration shop with a large touchscreen TV that allows them to look at drawings and manuals right next to where they are working. Of course I asked for pictures, and they were happy to oblige!
Above: TSWM restoration shop manager Mike Durkee (right) zooms in on drawing 10072, the beam assembly for the main center section of the Corsair, in order to examine the drill spacing on the lower hinge fitting.
Above: Mike points out the lower hinge fitting. Several weeks ago Mike and the other restoration shop employees separated the wings from the fuselage for the first time on their Corsair, so areas like this are now more easily accessible.
This Corsair has been in storage since 1977, and I can't express how happy it makes me to see that the work we do here at AirCorps Library will help it return to the skies! Truly heartwarming!
